National Doctors’ Day, observed annually on March 30, is a special occasion to honor the dedication and contributions of physicians who tirelessly work to improve the health and well-being of individuals and communities. The tradition dates back to 1933 when Eudora Brown Almond, the wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, initiated the first celebration in Winder, Georgia. She chose March 30 to commemorate the anniversary of Dr. Crawford W. Long’s pioneering use of ether anesthesia during surgery in 1842.
American Medical Association Since then, National Doctors’ Day has evolved into a nationally recognized event, with President George H.W. Bush officially designating it in 1990.
On this day, we express our gratitude to physicians for their unwavering commitment to advancing healthcare. Hospitals, healthcare organizations, and communities across the country celebrate in various ways, from sending greeting cards and flowers to hosting appreciation events. It’s also an opportunity for patients and their families to reflect on the vital role doctors play in their lives, acknowledging the sacrifices made and challenges faced by these professionals.
As we approach National Doctors’ Day 2025, let’s take a moment to recognize the remarkable efforts of physicians who continue to navigate the evolving landscape of healthcare. Their resilience, compassion, and dedication ensure that communities remain healthy and informed, even in the face of unprecedented challenges.
To all doctors, thank you for your relentless pursuit of excellence and for being the pillars of our healthcare system.
